RESEARCH STUDIES

The Marchuk Laboratory at Duke University Medical Center is devoted to studying the role of genetics in the development of blood vessels in the body, and one area of particular focus is hereditary CCM.  Dr. Marchuk was one of the first scientists to discover that the KRIT1 gene was responsible for CCM1, and members of his team are studying the functions of KRIT1 by various methods.

Their discoveries may help to define better treatments and a cure for CCM1.  Additionally, the Duke team is studying families with CCM2 and CCM3, in order to find the gene mutations that cause them.  They are looking for families with multiple affected family members to donate a small amount of blood for linkage studies.

If you are interested in participating in these studies and meet these criteria, please contact:

Tracey P. Leedom, M.S., Genetic Counselor in the Marchuk Laboratory.
She can be reached at (919) 668-5335 or marchuk.research@mc.duke.edu.
