The Marchuk Laboratory at Duke University Medical Center is devoted to
studying the role of genetics in the development of blood vessels in the
body, and one area of particular focus is hereditary CCM. Dr. Marchuk
was one of the first scientists to discover that the KRIT1 gene was responsible
for CCM1, and members of his team are studying the functions of KRIT1
by various methods.
Their discoveries may help to define better treatments and a cure
for CCM1. Additionally, the Duke team is studying families with
CCM2 and CCM3, in order to find the gene mutations that cause them.
They are looking for families with multiple affected family members to
donate a small amount of blood for linkage studies.
